Media officer at JDR Didintle Tlhekwe take us through her itinerary as a media personality.
I was raised by a single mother; I witnessed the struggle my mother had to go day-in and day-out to make ends meet. My mother devoted her life to into ensuring that my brother and I had a warm and stable childhood. I am a media officer at JDR Stars, and a full time Journalism student. The opportunity presented itself in January 2021. It took me a lot of effort, time and countless obstacles, but l has learned to draw inspiration from that little girl who had big dreams and believed that nothing was impossible. I was inspired by Melissa Reddy; she is a South African female Sports Journalist who is currently living in England. Melissa Reddy story of how she broke into the industry and what she achieved so far is what truly inspires me. In competitive industry like this one, you must be able to adapt and be receptive of advices and knowledge from others. I was lucky enough to cross the path with the likes of Matome Kganakga and Vusi Ntimane, they played a crucial role in my development. Being able to pick up my phone and call my mother at any given time is what kept me sane, and prayer too. To the young girls out there looking up to me: Know your worth, be convinced by it. Do not let setbacks dishearten you, they are not only normal but also important. Learn from them, allow them to harden you. Don’t flow with unacceptable behavior like sexism or any form of discrimination, lastly surround yourself with a solid support structure.
