Michelle Obama inspired young, dark-skinned damsels to dream beyond their immediate perimeters. In a documentary about colorism titled “Dark Girls”, she said “There is a black woman who is dark-skinned in the white house”. I mirror this effect of a generation whereby reflection of young black women and girls is rooted in Michelle Obama’s words. I am fully aware of the weight of the career I opted for and I say, my win won’t be just for me but for others and next generation to come. I believe that as black women we are capable, and we shouldn’t feel ashamed of our bodies, but we should be proud. I plan to work with big companies and inspire youth to believe in possibilities. What makes Lucy Bonolo’s character is admiration, tenacity, fearlessness and self-liberty.
