" With the issue of gender equality at workplaces, it sadden me because this question still needs to be asked repeatedly which simply means we are still far from the victory"

22 years old assertive and intention lady born and bred at Eastern cape Yanelisa Bokveld: a model, TV and Radio personality, a graduate, currently completing second qualification in Motion Picture Medium.

Modelling helped me to improve as an individual, my communication skills, being articulate, moving with intention and my overview perspective of life. I started modelling in 2016, I have always known and believed growing up that l wanted to an influential being. After completion of my matric, I took leap of faith in beauty pageant and the rest was history, I was blessed with bigger titles that came with different responsibilities and duties. One thing they all had in common was charity work. With so much promising, I then ventured into commercial modelling which landed me one of South African’s well-known brand and signature cosmetics. Currently I am now face for that brand, and that has always been my dream. One of my greatest highlights should definitely be face of signature cosmetics, being crowned Miss Queenstown, being crowned Miss Tshwane University of Technology, lastly being Miss Mamelodi Sundowns Eastern cape recently, everything I achieved boils down to renaissance of my capability and opening big doors for me. Amongst other things I am an aspiring Tv and Radio personality, however while I continue knocking on doors and seek for opportunities, I utilize this time to harness my craft. I am also majoring in directing and writing, so one way or another, soon enough, my work will live to its potential. As cliché as it my sound, I am a philanthropist and humanitarian at heart therefore my hopes are too influential enough to inspire change in our communities and perhaps on a bigger scale. I want to do all the things I love while changing the world slowly but surely. My family and closest friends play a vital in keeping afloat. They remind me of who I am at the core of my heart. When the going gets tough or the world forsake me, they are there to keep me sane.  With the issue of gender equality at workplaces, it saddens me because this question still needs to be asked repeatedly which simply means we are still far from the victory. I have realized that patriarchy still dominates in many spaces including the workplace and that’s very sad. Nonetheless my heart beams when I see ladies creating their own spaces and no longer waiting to be called. Women are starting to realize the power in them to be great regardless of circumstances. I really pray to see more of this norm, maybe men will start to realize that we are as equal and capable. One thing I will forever tell youth that changed my life was knowing and believing when I was still a minor in my village who didn’t know better that l would make it out. Although all odds were against me at time, I was pushed by knowing and believing that I would be among the few who made it. That mindset saved my life, the day I was afforded an opportunity to relocate, I made sure to make every opportunity worthwhile. So, I will leave youth with these words by Cheslie Kryst, “No matter where you come from, the possibilities for your future are limited only by the depth of your own imagination”.
