Growing chickens is therapeutic, having to grow them since day one to when they are matured and ready to sell. The business of poultry taught me the importance of patience and perseverance. Poultry has always been something close to my family, it came about passion and looking for source of income to live off.
Most people can't start their business because they argue that they lack funding. I saved every penny from first EA's cycle and I invested all my savings in my business and my mother also contributed. My point is people shouldn't wait for manna from heaven, it's clear that funding is a long process and one isn't guaranteed of.
This poultry itinerary started while l was still in school, my mother was the one holding fort and somewhat that evoked my passion for Agricultural Science. My then Agricultural Science teacher Mr Maloka had a huge impact in ensuring that l opt for relevant path, in a nutshell he's one of those who channeled me into Poultry.
I cry a lot, I think that has always been my coping mechanism. There are times when business is fast and sometimes you are down to zero, that alone comes as emotional break down but we soldier on. I believe this is the beginning of more then just a small backyard farming, and Let me say only time will tell.
My chickens kept me sane, just being in the coop put my heart at ease, controls all the depression and anxiety. The chicken house is my antidepressant.
The only thing which hinders my progress is space and funding, I want to expand my business take part in creating jobs and food security. I think it is important for youth to do what they are passionate about. It's about time youth start creating jobs and by far I am proud of everyone who already joined the chain. To those who haven't start "start where you are, do what you can, with what you have". Don't wait for opportunities to present themselves, create those opportunities.
